My body of work focuses on the human form as a compositional element. Two bodies of work, one dealing with disenfranchised portraiture and the other of the nude figure, are straightforward documentation without the individuality.
For the 'portrait' work, I have traveled to various parts of the world that are stereotypic in their perception in an effort to express the universality of the subject. These areas have been as diverse as Venice, Italy; Central Asia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Ethiopia; and, most recently, the homeless of Central Park in New York City. By structuring the work within the same compositional format wherever I am shooting (focusing on the head and shoulders) while maintaining my 'distance' (oftentimes, without the subjects awareness), I have attempted to present a document of the indigeonous character of the sitter while presenting a common thread with all mankind.
The figurative work, again, detaches itself from any "personality" of the figure and uses the form and movement of the model to compose and abstract the spatial void.
